The Effect of Vehicle and Road Conditions on Rollover of Commercial Heavy Vehicles during Cornering: A Simulation Approach

Heavy vehicles make up a relatively small percentage of traffic volume on Malaysian roads compared to other vehicle types. However, heavy have been reported be involved in 30,000–40,000 accidents yearly and caused significantly more fatalities. Rollover may also incur cargo damages cause environmental or human disasters for that carry hazardous cargos if these contents are spilled. Thus, this paper, comprehensive study was conducted investigate the effects road conditions rollover commercial during cornering at curved sections. Vehicle include class (based axle number type), speed gross weight, while radius coefficient friction values. In order reduce risks usage actual crash experiments, simulation approach using multi-body dynamic software applied study, where verified virtual model simulated output results were extracted analyzed. The showed maximum 40% minimum 23% from total simulations resulted an unsafe condition (indicated as failed) simulations. From conditions, two types could identified, which un-tripped tripped rollovers. found strong correlation lateral acceleration (to rollover), followed by radius, respectively.
